Our Story
Every great brand is built on a foundation of truth. For Cedar & Son, that truth lies in the history of Queensland and the character of its founder.
Red Gold
In the 1800s, the Australian Red Cedar (Toona ciliata) was known as "Red Gold." It was the foundation of early wealth in Brisbane—valuable, sought-after, and legendary.
The true beauty of the Red Cedar lies in its contradiction: it is a softwood that behaves like a hardwood.
It is fragrant, refined, and easy to work with—appearing delicate to the eye. Yet it is naturally resistant to rot and decay, outlasting the harshest conditions. This is the visual and spiritual metaphor for our founder: soft-spoken, but unshakeable, and resilient.
Cedar & Son
The "& Son" honors the traditional merchant house naming conventions of the 19th century while paying tribute to our founder's son. The name represents a legacy of permanence and strength.
Our cedar tree icon—rendered in the black ink engraving style of 1800s botanical illustrations—represents a big, generous, protective canopy. The mother figure: a solid foundation that provides shade and security.
Built in Brisbane
We're a small mother and son operation creating quality basics that last. No shortcuts, no gimmicks—just honest clothing built with the same quiet resilience that defines the Red Cedar itself.
